How to digitize an old photo for the best result

The restoration can only work with what the scan contains, so a few minutes of preparation pay off:

  • Use a flatbed scanner at 600 dpi or more if you have one
  • With a phone, shoot in daylight, straight above the print, without flash
  • Remove the photo from glossy sleeves and frames to avoid glare
  • Fill the frame with the photo and crop the table around it
  • Dust the print gently with a soft brush before scanning

Restoration or colorization?

Restoration repairs damage and keeps the photo as it was, including black and white. Colorization adds color to a monochrome photo. You can ask for both in one prompt, or restore first and colorize the restored version, which gives you more control.

If you know the real colors, such as a blue uniform or a red door, say so in the prompt; otherwise the model chooses plausible colors.

Photo restoration FAQ

Will the restored photo be exactly like the original?

It stays close to the original, but the model has to guess missing details. Always keep your original scan.

Can it colorize black-and-white photos?

Yes. Ask for color and, if you know them, mention the real colors of clothes or places.

What resolution should I pick?

Choose 2K for screens and sharing, and 4K if you plan to print the restored photo.

Is it safe to upload family photos?

Uploads are used only to run your restoration and show your history, and are never sold. You can request deletion at any time under the privacy policy.
